NURFATIN FAZLIN BT MOHD ASRI_U2003107 (TEAM D)
Social engagement is one of the compulsory courses that I
need to register for this sem. Since this is the last semester for subject
GIG1005 Social Engagement. The first thing that comes out to my mind when I
heard about this course is volunteering. I have been told by my senior that
this is the best subject since we can do volunteering. But it is before the
Covid-19 hit us. When we still can do it physically. So, I have no idea how
this subject will be conducted at first since we are restricted to do physical
activity.
But after the briefing from Dr.
Aidil, I now have a clearer idea of how it will go. To be honest, I have no
confidence at all that I can make it work or not since I do not even know
anyone in this class. I literally felt so nervous in the first meeting with my
supervisor which is Dr. Zalfa. But Dr makes me feel more comfortable in her
class after having an interaction with her.
Then, Dr
allows us to choose our own group members that consist of 5 people in each
group. I am so glad that I manage to make friends and form a group.

My first interaction with my groupmates is in WhatsApp group chat. All
of them are very friendly and they are also very energetic. Their spirit
changes my perceptions on this subject and otherwise it makes me think that we
are not just making a project to pass this course, but we want it to be a
successful project that can give a big impact on our participants and will not
be forgotten.
Throughout the preparations, many
things we had learned because this is the first project that we organized and
plan by ourselves. And not to forget my supervisor, Dr. Zalfa that taught us
many things. I can see that Dr. Zalfa always wants the best for our project,
and I appreciate all her advice along this journey. We can change from zero in
preparing the slides for an event to an expert one now. Although we also face
few problems during the process like hard to reach the target participant, we
still manage to solve it together.
The event was successful. I’m truly happy and glad that I have this opportunity to run an event, interact with the community and importantly learn new things. We get many positive feedbacks from the participants although we face a technical issue that we can’t avoid at that time. All the challenges really taught me that planning is very important aspect in a successful event.
From this event, I had learned new skills such as communication skills, teamwork, and leadership skills. To be honest, I am an introverted person that not confident when to talk in front of many people. But by conducting this event, I can challenge myself to give a talk to all the participants and I’m very proud of myself that I really did it. It is such a big achievement for me. And I will remember all the meaningful advice from Dr. Zalfa. I will use and practice it in the future.
Lastly, I believe that we as a student that lives with the
community should always contribute to others. Not because it is the requirement
to pass the university courses, but as a responsible human. It is good when we
can engage with people and contribute something to them. Although not a big
contribution, but the small things also can be meaningful to them.
A big thanks to Dr Zalfa and all group 6 members! You guys
are the best!😆
