Sam Lea Chin Transformative Journal (Team A S2026547)
I believe me and my teammates had accomplished the goals we had set for our event. This is because we had received several positive feedbacks after the end of the event. At the same time, I myself had never presented to a crowd with more than 40 people, now I had done it through this event. I felt that I had unlocked an all new achievement through this event. On the other hand, before this event I thought that social engagement was to carry out activities with the Non-Government Organizations (NGO). After the event, I had successfully managed to engage with the society without even through other organizations but myself and my course mates. I never knew a student like me would be able to take such remarkable steps to engage with society.
For our event, I believed my team and I had struggled to have more people to join our event. To an extent that we go to the social media platform which we believe is an application that is mostly accessed by our target audience. The promotional plan did work out as my team managed to get 50 participants. However, in my point of view, the event could have attracted more people as my team had closed the registration form 2 days before the event. I think the number of participants could have been increased if we closed the registration form 1 day before the event. Besides, I think the event could have been more successful if my team and I could do the event physically. This is because we all know the hardest part of an event is the audience engagement. In a virtual event we had, the audience engagement is hard to instil.
On the other hand, I think me and my teammates had carried out the event in a very professional manner. I could see from the way we prepared our materials for the event day. My team and I had gone through the presentation materials to improve on it. Besides, we also take comments from our programme advisor, Dr. Zalfa. Her comments had made our team carry out our event in a systematic manner. I felt very lucky and grateful at the same time to have Dr Zalfa as our advisor, with her I had discovered the mistakes that I had made unconsciously like my team and I should have inserted the university’s logo in the presentation material.
In general, if me and my team would ever have a chance to do this event again, I would definitely be happy to do so. This is because I enjoyed a lot in the process of executing and planning this event. Besides, in the preparation of the event, I managed to engage with the society by sharing my own experiences. I believe my own experiences have helped them a lot in shaping their future career. This is where I personally enjoyed the most on executing the event.
As this is the first time for me personally to organise a virtual event, this was a new yet challenging task to me. Fortunately, through the planning and execution process I had developed a critical leadership skill which is resilience. The skill had positioned me to overcome the challenges that me and my team faces like to increase the number of participants, to make our event more attractive to our target audience. By executing this event, I had successfully developed to be resilient.
