Before the project:

I registered for this course because this is a compulsory course, and this is the last semester to provide this course. So, to be honest, I was not so clear about what should I do and achieve in this course.

After the first meeting with Dr. Zalfa, I was assigned to a small group with 5 members including me. After the meeting, I got a better understanding of the course, I know the main objective is to engage with a group of society, to create value for the society, and also learn something from it. I was the only Chinese in the group, which made me a little worried about how to cooperate with members to conduct a project. I am an introverted person, who does not like to talk much, which made me more worried.

During the project:

After the group is settled, we tried to come up with different ideas regarding the project. The final idea was to give free virtual accounting classes to Form 5 students.

I even had no idea of  Form 5 students, because I was not familiar with the Malaysian educational system, as a Chinese. Then I understand everything after my team members explained it to me. My team decided to use Malay to conduct the classes, which remove the language barrier that may occur during the class, since we would teach accounting knowledge, using the Malay language would help them better understand the topics. And that was understandable for me, so I was in charge of some preparation work to make sure the activity went smoothly during the event day.

For the poster, we edited it two times after the suggestions from my supervisor. That was the first time I felt the standard is still high even for university courses, which worth only two credits. I knew I have to work hard and treat this course seriously. Throughout the whole preparation process, I and my team members cooperated well, they are friendly, then I realized my prior concern and worry is unnecessary.

There were some challenges and obstacles for us, for example, we have to conduct the class online, which creates some obstacles for us to communicate and engage with our audiences. We did many adjustments on many things with the help of Dr. Zalfa.  Personally, I think Dr. Zalfa was quite strict on us, but I know this is good for us, this helped every student achieved the goal of this course and really learned something after the project. During the event day, everything was going well overall. There was no big problem occurred since all the speakers prepared quite well.

After the event:

Based on the participants' feedback, most of them gave a very high comment on our event. They have really enjoyed themselves and did learn knowledge about accounting from our project. Everyone felt very happy including me. I have tried my very best in facilitating this project and gained a lot of experience and skills as a result, such as communication and problem-solving, with the help from my leader and all my other team members, and also Dr. Zalfa.

Although I was not a teacher during the activity, I was told my contributions were still valuable, which made me feel happy and satisfied. This course really helped me to cooperate and organize a project with people who I haven't even met, and helped me to engage with the social group. I understand sometimes I just have to take the step and open up myself, everything will be fine as long as we work hard on it.
