Transformative Journal by Rachel A/P Manickam (U2003064) - Team C

First of all, I would like to grab this golden opportunity to thank our dedicated lecturer and supervisor, Dr. Zalfa Laili binti Hamzah, my very cooperative Team C members and kind GIG1005 Group 6 members as well.

When I first heard about Social Engagement course from my senior, I got to know that it’s all about volunteering. I am a person who love to volunteer in social community projects so definitely I would always find a chance to volunteer in helping the community. Therefore, I registered GIG1005 course and was curious about how are we going to conduct volunteering activities online. At the same time, I was also very excited to learn many new things from this course.

First and foremost, I got to know that all the BAcc students who registered for this course were separated into seven groups by the faculty and I found my name in Group 6 which will be supervised by Dr. Zalfa Laili. All the students under Group 6 were assigned to form a small group consisting 4-5 members. For this small group, we could choose our own group members. Thus, I was in Team C with my very dedicated teammates (Shafirah, Racheal, See Pei Fen, Phuah Jing Yi). We were as a team always support each other throughout the course.

I am so grateful for my understanding teammates who were always there to understand my circumstances and helped me a lot throughout the course. I will always be thankful for the commitment and cooperation they gave for the success of the project. In additional, I would like to thank my teammates who always reply in the group whenever I ask something. Furthermore, I am so grateful to Dr. Zalfa too for always helping us to upgrade the quality of our works.

Moreover, compared to the skills I had before the project and the skills I obtained after the project has very significant improvements. I am really glad for myself not only for enhancing my skills but also in developing new skills. Organizing a project is a very new thing for me. Therefore, I had an opportunity in developing my communication skill, collaborating skill and also good time management. I would appreciate myself for managing the time very well even when I was having a very packed schedule.

Besides, I also love teaching students. Since the project my team chose was a seminar for SPM students, I was intrigued to teach the participants new techniques. I was quite surprised when I realized that I still remember what I studied in my upper secondary school. Throughout the seminar, I could also enhance my teaching skill.

In conclusion, I am happy that I registered for this course in the beginning of this semester as it provided a great opportunity for me to do my part for the community even it was virtual.

I would like take this opportunity to thank my teammates, Dr. Zalfa and also the whole Group 6 again for supporting me and my team throughout this course.

Thank you! 💜
