Good day everyone! First and foremost, I am really glad that I took the course Social Engagement this semester and have the opportunity to meet my beloved teammates and our lecturer, Dr. Zalfa. To be honest, I have no idea about this course and do not know what to do but after the first meeting with Dr. Zalfa, I had a clearer picture of what are we supposed to do and I had formed a group of 5 with my friends with different races and started to discuss on the event we wish to conduct to engage with the society.

After I had the first discussion with my group members, we decided to conduct a seminar for SPM students in order to engage with the students and help the students to be more confident before they sit for their exam. We created our poster, Google Form, and generated a QR code for the participants to join and we also discussed the platforms we wanted to use to conduct the seminar. However, we found out some issues after several meetings and rehearsals among our members, and finally, we decided to launch our seminar through Google Meet and Skype platforms. We also prepared an E-certificate for the participants who joined our seminar.

I felt nervous and excited on the first day of the event although it was not the first time for me as a tutor to teach the students since I had the teaching experience before, but this time I will be taking the role as a student of the University of Malaya to approach with all participants and impart the knowledge I have to the students. On the first day of the seminar, our team is honored to invite Dr. Zalfa to launch our opening ceremony in the main meeting room after that our members and participants proceed to the small group meeting to carry on the session. We started with a self-introduction and ice-breaking session with some mini-games. However, at first, it was a bit upsetting for me as the participants were not active and were not willing to switch on their camera and mic to interact with us. Luckily, I had my partner with me to hike up the atmosphere and tried to bring out the topics to interact with the participants and finally, they are willing to unmute their mics or typed in the chatbox. At this moment, we really felt glad to communicate with them and so the teaching session which was discussing the question we distributed can be done smoothly and cheerfully.

On the other hand, we were willing and happy to help when any of the participants inbox us through WhatsApp about any problem they faced, and throughout the teaching session, we were pleased to receive some questions and were more than happy to be able to solve their doubts. We did not only discuss the questions on paper, but we also shared our life and university experiences with the participants.  After discussing and interacting session in the small group channel, we moved to the main channel to carry on with the Quizizz session. Participants participated actively in the chatbox as well.

To be honest, before the event I felt tiring to conduct such event that will be held for two days and we had to undergo many rehearsals and discussions until midnight but after the event, I felt so happy and proud of us to successfully held such seminar smoothly and was so satisfied especially when the participants reached out to me and asking for more further events that they are really looking forward to. Feedback from the participants were good and we were glad to have a good bonding with the students and keeping in touch with them to follow up for more information. The most important I have gained from conducting this event is the relationship and the spirit with my group members. I learned to help each other and react fast when emergency situations occurred such as the technical issues on a platform we used or problems faced by the participants. I also glad to have Dr. Zalfa as our supervisor to guide us step by step and always followed up with our progress to make sure the seminar can be done smoothly.

Thank you everyone for your efforts and sincere thanks to Dr. Zalfa. Wish you all the best in everything!
